Mackenzie Art Gallery - Platinum Dreams Gala 2023

Written by: Jen Fong - Communications Coordinator

The Mackenzie Art Gallery's Platinum Dreams Gala was a dream come true indeed. This annual fundraiser is always elegant, creative, and oh-so artistic. This particular gala was extra special, celebrating the gallery's 70th anniversary with a brilliant evening of food, drinks, entertainment, music, and a live art auction. Oh, and about 800 silver foil balloons, of course.

Inside-the-Install Details

Silver. Everywhere. Built off of the planning committee’s vision, this install used exclusively metallic foil balloons to bring their platinum dreams into reality. The floating orbs were placed 30+ ft in the air, making every level of the gallery reflective and glimmery. Paired with the Mackenzie Art Gallery's soft lighting and stunning silver decor, the space was transformed into a sparkling platinum paradise.

Floor to Ceiling 'Floor'escence

There's something magical (and oh-so-satisfying) about covering a whole area in foils. The gala's dance space was walled in, so we covered it floor-to-ceiling with over 800 round foils. This type of floating wall/ceiling creates a picture-perfect visual that guest love. Not only is it a great photo op, it's also an excellent way to transform a plain wall - without the permanence of paint or wallpaper - for a special event!

Behind the Scenes

Now for the realness behind the magic. Behind each huge install is HOURS of work. Yes, there's the inflating, hanging, tying, adjusting, popping (sh**!), and inflating again. But there's also hours of prep work, designing, testing, and communication. We work closely with our clients to define their unique vision. Then, we work our butts (and hands) off to create that vision out of balloons. So please, take that picture and share that post! We love the process, but we love seeing you enjoy the outcome even more!
